Marginalia · A note
Make the small things well; the large things follow.
It is easy to have a grand vision and hard to make the small things well. But the small things are where the vision is tested. A house is not a design; it is ten thousand joints, each of which must hold.
When I find myself thinking about the large thing, I try to return to the small thing in front of me. The error message. The edge case. The loading state nobody will notice. If these are made well, the large thing takes care of itself.
The large thing is a consequence. The small thing is a choice. Choose well, often, and the consequence follows.
