There is a kind of work that announces itself — the launch, the announcement, the metric that spikes and then settles. It feels productive in the moment and leaves nothing behind.

And there is a kind of work that is barely visible: the slow refinement, the small fix, the customer answered at length. None of it makes a chart move. All of it makes the thing better, and better, and better.

Over years, the quiet work is the only work that remains. The loud work is already gone, replaced by the next loud thing. Compound interest is patient, and it favours the patient.
